Saint Lucia Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre is in New York for the 81st United Nations General Assembly, where he is scheduled to deliver the country’s national statement during the high-level General Debate.

Pierre is expected to address the United Nations on September 25, 2026, during a General Assembly week focused on the theme “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.”

The UN discussions are covering major international issues including peace and security, climate change, sustainable development and development financing. Saint Lucia’s government said the Prime Minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings in New York on matters of interest to the country.

Pierre is also scheduled to meet members of the Saint Lucian diaspora in New York on September 26, before his expected return to Saint Lucia on September 27. During his absence, Ernest Hilaire is serving as Acting Prime Minister and holding the associated ministerial responsibilities.

The visit places Saint Lucia’s foreign policy, climate priorities and international development interests on the agenda during one of the United Nations’ main annual diplomatic gatherings.
