Guyana’s opposition political landscape is showing signs of a possible shift as Aubrey Norton and Azruddin Mohamed prepare to discuss a growing dispute over opposition representation.

Norton, chairman of A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), said he is prepared to meet Mohamed, the Leader of the Opposition and leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, to discuss several unresolved political issues.

The disagreement intensified after Mohamed submitted three opposition nominees for the Local Government Commission, with APNU objecting to being left without a representative.

Mohamed has subsequently invited Norton to talks covering the Local Government Commission, GECOM appointments and registration-related issues, as well as broader opposition concerns.

Norton has indicated that he is willing to engage, but wants the meeting to take place at a neutral location rather than at WIN’s headquarters.

The proposed meeting could become an important moment for Guyana’s opposition, particularly as different opposition groups attempt to coordinate their positions on constitutional bodies and national political issues.

The developments highlight the continuing challenge of building cooperation among Guyana’s opposition parties following the 2025 general elections.
