Five workers were injured in a fire during a gas-system repair operation in Havana, prompting an emergency response in the Plaza de la Revolución municipality.
The incident occurred on Tulipán Street while a team from Cuba’s Manufactured Gas Company was carrying out repair work on a fault affecting local gas supplies. The injured workers were taken to hospital for treatment, with initial reports indicating that their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Firefighters responded quickly and contained the blaze before it could spread to surrounding areas. The repair operation involved excavation work in the roadway to locate and address problems affecting underground gas pipelines.
Authorities from the Manufactured Gas Company and local government are monitoring the situation, while the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The incident comes amid repeated disruptions to Havana's manufactured-gas network in recent months, affecting residents across several municipalities.
Authorities are continuing to assess the incident and the condition of the affected workers as investigations proceed.
