SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic — The Dominican Republic has introduced a National Framework for Verifiable Credentials, adding a new digital-verification capability to the government's Soy Yo RD citizen platform.
The initiative, presented by the Ministry of Public Administration (MAP) and the Government Office of Information and Communication Technologies (Ogtic), will allow citizens to carry, present and verify official information digitally while maintaining the authority of the institution that issued it.
Instead of repeatedly presenting documents or PDFs, users will be able to present a digital official credential whose authenticity and validity can be checked by an authorized institution or third party.
Authorities said the framework is part of the country's broader development of digital identity, interoperability and secure online government services. More institutions and additional uses can be incorporated progressively as the system develops.
The technology is expected to make interactions between citizens, businesses and public institutions more digital and easier to verify, while supporting the Dominican Republic's wider digital-government transformation.
