KINGSTOWN, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines — Saint Vincent and the Grenadines has officially launched a Smart Maritime Safety Network, a nationwide initiative designed to modernize marine safety, strengthen coastal surveillance, and improve emergency response across the country's island chain.

Government officials, coast guard representatives, port authorities, marine engineers, technology specialists, tourism stakeholders, and regional maritime partners introduced investments supporting AI-powered vessel monitoring, digital navigation systems, satellite-assisted coastal surveillance, real-time weather intelligence, and secure emergency communication platforms.

Officials emphasized that strengthening maritime safety is essential for protecting communities, supporting tourism, safeguarding fisheries, and improving transportation links between the islands.

The programme includes intelligent vessel tracking, automated navigation alerts, smart harbour monitoring, predictive marine weather analytics, cloud-based emergency coordination, renewable-powered coastal monitoring stations, and cybersecurity protections for maritime communication systems.

Maritime experts welcomed the initiative, explaining that real-time digital monitoring will improve operational safety while enabling faster responses to emergencies at sea.

Tourism and shipping leaders praised the investment, noting that enhanced maritime infrastructure strengthens visitor confidence, supports commercial transport, and improves reliability for inter-island travel.

Technology specialists highlighted the use of artificial intelligence, geospatial analytics, cloud computing, and remote sensing technologies that provide continuous situational awareness for maritime authorities.
