ORANJESTAD, Aruba — Aruba’s distance-running talent received another international test this week as athletes represented the island at the La Carrera del Pacífico 10K in Cali, Colombia.

Rebecca Jansen of Team Pegasus recorded a time of 37 minutes and 40 seconds, finishing 12th overall among the female field.

The performance adds another strong international result for Aruba’s growing athletics community.

Jansen and fellow Aruban runner Jethro Saint Fleur travelled to Colombia with National Coach Ludwig Dirksz after being selected to compete in the prestigious road race. The Aruba Athletic Federation announced their participation ahead of the August 9 event.

Competing abroad gives Aruban athletes valuable experience against runners from different countries and provides an opportunity to measure their progress at a high level.

Jansen’s 37:40 performance is particularly encouraging as Aruba continues to develop its road-running and endurance programmes.

The international appearance also highlights the work of local clubs and coaches supporting athletes as they pursue opportunities beyond the island.

For Aruba’s athletics community, international races such as the Cali 10K provide an important platform for athletes to gain experience, improve performances and represent the national colours.

The latest result adds momentum to Aruba’s athletics programme as local runners continue building their presence in regional and international competition.
